MEDICAL SERVICE

Piquiucho was completely devoid of medical care. When Ulises was small, he and other locals had to travel to other places to be inspected by a doctor. With this in mind, Ulises built a medical centre, which has gynaecological equipment (with a delivery room), dentistry, stretchers, scales, medicines, etc. For two years, Ulises personally paid a doctor, dentist and nurse to care for the inhabitants of Piquiucho. Later, Ulises ensured that the Ministry of Public Health of Ecuador co-operated with his project and achieved a budget for the public health centre. Presently, it is the government of Ecuador that covers professional fees with the staff of this centre.  Proudly, it is the medical centre of Piquiucho that receives patients from surrounding towns to be treated there at no cost.

Ulises is now taking steps to build a hospital. This hospital will provide a more comprehensive service than the Medical Centre of Piquiucho. It is anticipated that the hospital services include paediatrics, cardiology, X-ray, gynaecology and laboratories. Ulises brought pharmaceutical Grunental to pay for sixty percent of construction costs of the hospital and the remaining forty per cent will be covered by FRIENDS OF FUNDECRUZ.
